One of my favorite ways of wasting a couple minutes is reading the local "Go Blue Ridge Dot Net." Here is an example:
An earthquake rocked the area at the Watauga-Caldwell line early this morning, prompting calls about explosions and other inquiries to the Watauga Communications Center, who dispatched fire and other emergency units before the cause became evident. The 3.0 magnitude trembler hit at 1:44 this morning along a fault line 14 miles southeast of Boone, 9 miles North of Lenoir, according to the USGS. One blowing Rock area resident reported his dog waking and jumping into his bed just before the sound of the quake was heard. Watauga Emergency Communications dispatched two calls of an explosion in the Sampson area just before 2 this morning after residents reported what they interpreted as an explosion. The first report was a 2.9 magnitude quake 7 1/2 miles south of Newland, but that location and strength have been revised as data comes to the US Geological Survey Center about the quake.
There were also reports that my dog started barking but didn't jump on the bed because she knows she isn't allowed. She is a good girl, a very good girl.
The misspelled words and grammatical errors are also a joy (relative to this blog were they are a pain). In this example, Blowing Rock is a town so the B should be capitalized (i.e., the town of Rock doesn't blow).
