A non-zero number of my posts are written exclusively for Tim's consumption. If anyone else enjoys them then that is a bonus. This post will probably be of interest to only Tim. I was back in my hometown this past weekend and ran across this item in the local paper:
It was hard to find many positives about Oldham County’s 2013 football season.
The Colonels ended the year with six straight losses, limping home to a 2-9 record and first round playoff exit.
But while everything else was going wrong for OC, they could at least rely on the right foot of their senior kicker.
Sean Nuernberger was named first-team all-state by the Courier-Journal after hitting 13 of 20 field goals in 2013.
That included a 57-yarder he booted in a loss to Ballard.
The 57-yard field goal was one yard short of the KHSAA-record 58-yarder hit by Raceland’s Aaron Pettrey in 2003.
Nuernberger was also a weapon on kickoffs, preventing returns by knocking the ball through the end zone most times he went out to kick.
Like Pettrey, Nuernberger will be playing college football at Ohio State.
The Bamberg, Germany, native accepted a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes last fall. Nuernberger graduated from OC a semester early so he could enroll at Ohio State for spring practice.
Nuernberger is expected to be the team’s starting kicker when it kicks off its season Aug. 30 against Navy.
“I expected it to be hard, I expected it to be fun,” Nuernberger said of playing for the Buckeyes. “It’s been good.
“I’ve met a lot of new people. The workouts are a lot harder. I never thought I could hurt so much at the end of the day. But it’s a good thing... I feel like it was really beneficial to be up there for the spring.”
A 2-9 record and first round playoff exit? Does every team get in the football playoffs these days?
