Governor Bachman Turner
announced plans to distribute $65 million in federal stimulus funds
for energy conservation. The money will go to weatherization projects
for low income homeowners who are already a part of the state's energy
assistance program. Turner said 498 jobs will be
created by the stimulus money.
Env-Econ boilerplate:
Using
Romer-Bernstein method's
mulitiplier of 1.5, the $65 million green stimulus will generate $97.5
million in GDP. This is about 0.0007% of GDP in a $14 trillion
economy. Using the Romer-Bernstein Rule, each 1% of GDP generates 1
million jobs, the BTO component of the stimulus bill
will generate about 696 new green jobs.
Wow, the number of jobs created claim, 498, is less than estimate obtained from the RBRT method, 696. Previous overestimates can be found at this link.
