From the inbox:
I’ll be teaching an environmental econ course this fall and would like to borrow your benefit estimation project (http://www.appstate.edu/~whiteheadjc/eco3620/projects/demand/index.htm) for my class. Would I have your permission to do so (giving due credit to you, of course)?
By the way, what sort of background do your students have in terms of regression analysis when beginning this project? Do you require any prerequisites or do you simply do some sort of “just-in-time” lecture on OLS?
My reply:
Yes, of course, you have permission to use the project. Have fun!
Some of the students have a regression background, most don’t. I do a just-in-time lecture on OLS: http://www.appstate.edu/~whiteheadjc/eco4810/Spring08/stuff/ols/default.htm.
*Not really great, but good. Well, maybe not all that good. Maybe mediocre. But "Mediocre ideas for teaching environmental economics" doesn't make for a great blog post title.
