From my department's Pattern of Administration (our rules):
The typical faculty member has an appointment involving two or three funding lines - OARDC, OSUE, or OSU general funds...Regardless of appointment, faculty members are expected to produce scholarly research, to publish this research, and to obtain extramural funding for their scholarly activities. Each faculty member is also expected to contribute to instructional, outreach education, and service activities. [emphasis added]
From my 2007 annual report of accomplishments--submitted last week:
Outreach Education: Environmental Economics: Economists on Environmental and Natural Resources, News,Opinion and Analysis. Launched June, 2005. (www.env-econ.net). As of 12/3/2007, total visits according to Site Meter: 645,000. Averaging over 1,400 per day.
