It's been 30 days since Google dropped us from searches. The effects are starting to depress me. The graph to the right shows our 30 day moving average of page views from June of 2005 to present. A nice upward trend until December 24, 2007--aka The Christmas Eve Massacre*--the day Google decided we no longer exist.
We still have a Google pagerank of 5 (out of 10), and are fully indexed by Google, but we don't show up in relevant searches**. We were able to trace the problem to Network Solutions using the address http://env-econ.net as an advertising sight.
Turns out we were supposed to know that dropping the www creates a different site and traffic wouldn't be automatically redirected here. Google apparently doesn't like the practice and demotes sites that aren't automatically redirected. John paid $12 a couple of weeks ago to Network Solutions to get env-econ.net redirected to www.env-econ.net. So far, nothing. Where are you NetworkSolutions?
*Hmmmm, looks an awful lot like the Dow Jones Industrial average over the same period (click the graph to the right). Coincidence? I think not.
**Try searching on 'John Whitehead Environmental Economics.' No links to www.env-econ.net in Google. In Yahoo, www.env-econ.net shows up first.
