At home with kids on a 2-hour delay snow (actually ice) day so I'm reading the news ... Here is what I found in the WSJ Morning Brief:
The House is set to vote today on legislation aimed at boosting alternative energies at the expense of the oil and gas industry, and the Senate could follow next week. But as Bloomberg reports, the bill faces a tough battle for Senate and presidential approval. ...
The bill also would require that 15% of power come from renewable sources by 2020. Southern electric utility companies are hoping the Senate will strip out that part of the bill, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, claiming the region doesn't have the same ability to harness wind and solar power as do flatter, sunnier parts of the country. ...
Easy solution: Make the renewable power units transferable. Southern utilities that can't find 15% could purchase credits from western utilities that have more than 15%. Why didn't I think of that?
