Making Ethanol from corn may help reduce oil imports, but it's driving the cost of milk through the barn roof.
Tomorrow, the retail price of a gallon of milk will rise to $3.54, up 60 cents from the end of last year, when it cost $2.94.

Economists say the situation is fueled in part by the demand for clean-burning ethanol, which is made from corn, the primary feed for dairy cattle. When farmers feed their cows less corn, milk production falls, Krupke said.
