My head hurts. It might be the lovely Ohio summer weather (thunderstorm after thunderstorm followed by thunderstorms), but it also might be my inability to answer a question that has been bugging me. So I thought I would throw it out to you and see if I get an answer I like...but at the very least you might join me in my misery. Here goes:
It all started with the following comment made on my post about the Northwest Hawaiian Islands National Monument:
I think that since we as a species have done so much to destroy our environment already, we should think seriously about protecting what is left!
So here is my question: Why do we assume that environmental change is 'bad'? Or perhaps another way: Why do we automatically assume that any environmental change caused by humans is destructive, while any environmental changes induced by other--presumably nonreasoning--species are just part of the natural order?
