The second most unimaginable sports picture ever
This is as close to an illustration of 'blasphemous' as I can imagine. The only thing that would make this worse is if it were a Yankees uniform*.
* For those not familiar with Major League Baseball, that's Cal Ripken Jr.--a lifelong Baltimore Oriole and my favorite baseball player growing up**. To see him in another uniform is, well, shocking.
**So much so that 'Ripken' is the front-runner for the name of our new Wheaten Terrier puppy that we be getting on Thursday***.
***Sorry LFLIATWP and four students for the non-environmental post.

Seeing as Ripken Baseball just bought the Rays Class A franchise in Vero Beach, I'd chalk it up more to his business sense. It will be interesting to see how many more fans he can put in the seats, which might make for a neat side project if you're an interested economist/fan looking for a way to measure the economic impact of Ripken's residual star power....

Wheaten Terrier?
My dog, Patches, lived under my porch as a stray last winter.

In a house full of allergy sufferers, we needed to make sure we had a non-shedder.

Here is another interesting article about Ripken's minor league teams: http://tinyurl.com/ripkenminorleagueteams
It might not be a purely "environmental" post, but you could spin it towards the economics of (demand for?) recreation. :-)
Also, I see that John wrote an article in 2000 that mentions a minor league baseball stadium (Value of Public Goods from Sports Stadiums: The CVM Approach).
