Banned in China
From comment #113470338:
John & Tim,
Congratulations! Your site appears to be blocked by the Chinese Internet police. From here in Suzhou I have been unable to get to your site except through a proxy switch.
Be proud. I have two websites blocked myself. I hear they have 50,000 people working full time to police the Internet. Ridiculous to try and compare the costs and benefits there.
I wonder what we did wrong ... could it be my offensive avatar?

I've been reading your blog through google reader and it's come through fine, but then out of curiosity from this post I tried going through the website itself. Sure enough the Great Firewall of China has struck again (I had such high hopes for them, they just let through wikipedia). So it seems you are in fact blocked all across China, or at least Beijing and Suzhou.

John,
You wrote, "I wonder what we did wrong.."
A quick search of env-econ for the word, Darfur, results in six hits. Could be that.
A quick search of env-econ for the word, genocide, results in four hits but the term, Genocide Games, is never used. Who knows?

I am pretty sure China blocks all sites that allow comments.
It is either that or Odo's anti-free-trade-with-China rhetoric.

Paul,
Are you trying to say it is not my offensive avatar?

John,
Offensive avatar? No, everyone loves Edward Teach aka Blackbeard.
