Why doesn't my WIndows Vista computer tell me the correct time? My watch says it is 6:15 (an hour and 15 minutes until my intramural basketball game tipoff -- why aren't I stretching?) and my computer says that it is 5:05. When I reset the time it goes back to something wrong. The difference in right/wrong times does not appear to follow a system.

Ugh.

It seems likely that this is a serious problem if more than the hour is wrong.

The two likely possibilities are :

1. The battery/battery IC on the motherboard that powers the RTC (Real Time Clock) is exhausted.

2. Some kind of virus is interfering with the timekeeping function.

Good Luck, Don

Biggest problem is probably "Vista".

But check your time zone setting, and see if you are talking to a viable "Internet Time" source.

Larry,

I changed the time synchronization from time.windows.com to time.nist.gov. Maybe that will help.

Don,

Yikes! And, obviously, it is a relatively new computer.

Did time.nist.gov solve your problem?

Yes! It seems to have worked. The time is now 4:28.
