#1 Headline Coming True
Yesterday, I said the #1 environmental economics headline I would like to see is:
Gas prices too high? DRIVE LESS!
Well...close enough:
I'm patting myself on the back.

Problem is that there are relatively few places in the country which have competitive transit systems - because of goverment-directed subsidies for automobile infrastructure and other suburban sprawl features - meaning that while transit ridership may rise 10% but actual automobile driving might have only gone down 0.001%.
I know that around here (Austin), we have probably the most competitive bus system in the south between New Orleans and LA; but it's still a complete non-option for the suburban commuter, and always will be - the government-subsidized physical infrastructure will never be able to support transit, even at $10/gallon.
